The Elmwood Resort Hotel in Wells shared a video this week depicting a moose trotting down a York County road, skidding to an almost cartoonish stop in front of the girl recording the ordeal, then turning about in what looks like a little dance before taking off.
As of this writing, the newly reposted video has been viewed more than a quarter of a million times and shared nearly 6,000 times.
The Portland Press Herald’s Gillian Graham reported the video was originally recorded about two years ago on Oakwoods Road in North Berwick by then-Noble High School sophomore Emily Fenderson.
“Holy crap I’ve never been this close to a moose,” a flabbergasted Fenderson says in the 30-second clip. “Oh my god!”
As many Facebook commenters were quick to point out, it’s pretty rare for anyone to get that close to a moose, and the massive animals don’t always react well to intimate encounters with humans.
They can get aggressive when angry or startled — take a look at this one, for instance — and the moose in this video was clearly spooked. But all was well that ended well, in this case, and Fenderson now has a story she can tell friends for years.
