National site says this ‘Star Wars’ character best represents Maine. We can’t decide if that’s an insult

A while back, the national real estate search site Estately mapped out the U.S. as if each state was a “Star Wars” character. With all the hullabaloo surrounding this week’s release of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” we decided to take another look at it.

So, for instance, swampy Louisiana was assigned Yoda, who famously hid away in the swamps of Dagobah, and Michigan, home of the country’s least transparent government, was identified with evil despot Emperor Palpatine.

You can see the connections in many of these choices. Missouri, where there are more bounty hunters than anywhere else in the nation, is represented by Boba Fett. Meanwhile, the desert robbers of Tattooine, known as the Tusken Raiders, would be right at home in hot, sandy Nevada, which also happens to have the most robberies per capita in the country.

Alaska? You guessed it. The Wampa, the snow monster from the ice planet, Hoth.

There’s only one Han Solo (New Hampshire) or Luke Skywalker (Mississippi) to go around, but Maine must have gotten someone interesting, right?

Eh.

Estately claims Maine is best represented by Droopy McCool, the doughy flute player in the Max Rebo Band that plays at Jabba the Hutt’s place in “Return of the Jedi.”

The website writer justifies this pick by pointing out that Mainers have Googled “flute” more in the past 12 years than people in any other state. (How does he even know that?)

So here we are. We have to admit, at first, we were a little nonplussed by this pick. The guy doesn’t exactly have a body type we envy, but hey, we’re not all Hugh Jackman.

Then we found a Droopy biography online. Here’s an excerpt:

“‘McCool’ was famous because he never fit in with the crowd, and because he had a quasi-mystic behavior. However, as the other courtiers on Jabba’s Palace were usually busy, almost nobody paid him any attention as long as he continued with his work.”

We can dig that. We do our own thing up here in Maine, have some quiet wisdom, work hard and generally keep to ourselves.

And yeah, we do like our music.

So maybe Droopy McCool’s not so bad after all.

If you’re curious about some of your other favorite “Star Wars” characters:

  • Texas is Darth Vader
  • Alabama is Finn
  • Indiana is Rey
  • Arizona is Obi-Wan Kenobi
  • California is C-3PO
  • Arkansas is Jabba
  • Ohio is Kylo Ren
  • South Dakota is BB-8
  • Utah is Princess Leia
  • Virginia is Poe Dameron
  • And Washington is Chewbacca
