USA Today’s ‘best main street’ could be in Maine. Voting is underway

USA Today is among the country’s most widely read newspapers, and its annual Readers’ Choice polls garner thousands of votes.

Maine institutions have fared well in the site’s so-called 10Best polls on the region’s best lobster rolls (of course) as well as the country’s best seasonal festivals. But now online votes are being tallied for America’s best main street, and a Maine city needs your support.

As of this writing, Bath is still among the top 10 vote-getters of the 20 communities on the list, but Staunton, Virginia, and McMinnville, Oregon, are leading the pack.

There’s less than a month to go in the voting, which you can do by clicking here.

Here’s how USA Today describes Maine’s City of Ships:

“Bath’s two main thoroughfares are appropriately named Front and Centre. Both streets are lined with nineteenth century architecture, including many historic mansions, as well as antique stores, local book sellers and art galleries, like the Centre Street Arts Gallery and the Chocolate Church Arts Center.”

This is not the first time the beautiful Bath downtown has attracted national attention. The National Trust for Historic Preservation once named it one of the organization’s “Distinctive Destinations,” and later presented the city with its Great American Main Street honor.

The site TopValueReviews.net ranked Bath’s quaint main street among the nation’s best last year, as well, as did Fodor’s Travel in 2014.
