Hey, it’s been a few weeks since Portland was named one of America’s best cities for something.
SmartAsset — a financial services website that also creates online content because that’s just what everyone does now — looked at 296 of the biggest cities in America to compile a list of the best places for beer drinkers.
Portland, which has long been known for its bounty of breweries, pubs and other alcohol-related businesses, is at the top of the list.

The site tallied the total number of microbreweries, which it found to be 17. It also calculated the number of microbreweries and bars per capita, as well as the average Yelp rating for breweries and the average price of a pint of domestic beer.
Here’s a table showing how each city did (click for a larger version):
Portland bested Asheville, North Carolina, which came in second, as well as the lesser Portland, which made the number-three slot.
The site notes that “many of the cities with the best beer also have the gloomiest winters. Something tells us that isn’t a coincidence.”
