In new movie, Colin Farrell must find mate or be turned into a lobster. No, really…

In his latest movie, Hollywood star Colin Farrell prefers Maine’s signature seafood.

But not for dinner.

The science fiction-romantic thriller mashup film “The Lobster” is the latest in what’s become a long line of movies about a dystopian future. But unlike in “Divergent” or “The Hunger Games,” in “The Lobster,” single adults are herded together and required to find mates within 45 days, or they’re turned into animals and sent out into the wilderness.

The good news for loners is that they get to pick their new animal selves, and Farrell decides he would prefer to spend out the rest of his days as a lobster.

Yes, the movie is intended to be funny, but it’s not billed as an outright comedy, per se, and despite the somewhat absurd premise, the movie is being widely applauded by critics. It won the Jury Prize at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival this year.

The under-the-radar, but surprisingly star-studded film also features Lea Seydoux, Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly and Oscar-winner Rachel Weisz.

According to Vulture.com, Farrell’s character picks the lobster as his animal punishment because lobsters mate for life, and he’s still stinging after his wife left him for another man.

Hopefully, Farrell’s character can find love in his human form, because once he turned into a lobster, he’d quickly learn that male lobsters are actually only romantically involved with a given female for a few weeks at a time. And if he doesn’t prove himself as an adequate temporary father, the female will quickly go find someone better.

Oh, how the cruel cycle would continue for poor Colin Farrell.
