Stephen King fields your random questions

Does author Stephen King mind that he’s not known for genres other than horror, even though he’s written on a variety of subjects (such as baseball)? Does he sometimes scare himself so much he sleeps with the lights on?

Has he ever considered doing another long-running series again with a length similar to “The Dark Tower”? If only one of his works could exist, which would he choose? Can he remember the name of the real dog on which he based the novel “Cujo”?

All these questions (and many more) poured in after Stephen King tweeted Aug. 10 that he’d be taking people’s questions Thursdays on Twitter:

He didn’t answer all of them. (Doing so probably would have taken all day; the tweet got 946 retweets and 2,811 favorites.)

But he did clarify that he doesn’t care whether people call him a horror writer “as long as they don’t call me late for dinner.”

And he doesn’t plan to write another long-running series. “I’m too old to start another long cycle of novels,” he tweeted.

What were the best last lines from his books? He has an answer (which was favorited 1,231 times):

Here are the last two lines of each book:

— “Christine”: “Life was such a wheel that no man could stand upon it for long. And it always, at the end, came round to the same place again.”

— “The Stand” (the uncut edition): “His single-minded purpose. His unending fury.

— “East of Eden,” by John Steinbeck: “‘Timshel!‘ His eyes closed and he slept.”

But people seem to like his tweets about his dog, Molly, a.k.a., the Thing of Evil, even more. This one was favorited 2,300 times:

And it looks like he wasn’t available last week:

Maybe he’ll be free tomorrow. What would you ask?
