Watch these Ellsworth friends get down for a thrift shop music video

Time for a close — oops — clothes encounter. The secondhand clothing store Clothes Encounter in Ellsworth published a music video on YouTube Tuesday featuring its gently used fur coats, onesies, books, hats, leopard print sweaters, prom dresses, origami and more. It’s a local take on hip hop duo Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis’ single “Thrift Shop.”

“We just kind of want to get out there and be like, this is a fun, quirky, different place that has affordable stuff. People love thrift shops, and we love thrift shops. We want to be the best one we can be,” said co-owner Suzanne Wood, who you’ll see sitting on the couch in the opening shots of the video with co-owner Kristin Brown.

The rest of the people in the video are their friends “who we love a lot” and “who were willing to be crazy,” Wood said. They filmed it over two nights.

The video was directed and the song sung by Mike Perlman and Brian Shaffer; it was produced, edited and written by Perlman.

Clothes Encounter opened its doors in June 2013.
