The heartwarming story behind that excited Canadian weatherman

This post originally ran in January of 2015. We’re re-sharing it to accompany a new post on Frankie MacDonald and provide more information on his background.

An amateur Canadian weatherman’s excited selfie video forecast has been making the rounds on social media in advance of the upcoming east coast snowstorm.

The forecast is a regular part of Frankie MacDonald’s day, even when there isn’t a massive storm bearing down on the U.S. or his hometown of Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Frankie’s weather reports have made him a social media darling, garnering him more than 15,000 followers on Twitter and 43,000 subscribers on YouTube.

He is also autistic. His family, in an interview with the CBC, said his weather videos and updates are his life. Frankie has also become an inspirational figure against vicious online comments, and stands up for himself against anonymous critics who snipe at him and his videos.

“Some of the people make fun of me on the Internet and it is not a nice thing to do,” Frankie told the Toronto Star. “I have a good heart.”

Just as many, though, come to Frankie’s defense. Buoyed by this support, and undeterred by the haters, he continues to produce his daily forecasts for Nova Scotia, Maine, Washington, Minnesota, or wherever he feels.

“I like it, I like when people say, ‘Frankie you are doing a great job, doing the weather,” he told the CBC.

From here, it certainly looks that way. Keep up the good work, Frankie.
