Spotify researcher Paul Lamere is back at it.

Back in February, we reported on this blog that Lamere had determined that, based on which bands were streamed in which states most significantly more than the national average, R.E.M. was what Business Insider at the time called Maine’s “favorite band.”

Now, Lamere’s latest research, as reported by The Washington Post, shows which artists’ music is played most frequently on Spotify in each state.

So the previous study told us that Mainers listen to R.E.M. more than people in other states on average listen to R.E.M., but it didn’t tell us that Mainers listened to R.E.M. more than any other musician.

Who do we listen to more than any other musician?

The rapper/producer duo of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. (That picture at the top spoiled it, huh?)

Click here for the Post’s coverage and Lamere’s full-country map of who listens most to what.

Maine isn’t alone in loving the chart-topping, Grammy-winning Macklemore, though. New Hampshire, Hawaii and eight other states — mostly in the Midwest and Northwest — also have him and Lewis at the No. 1 spots in their Spotify lists.

If the U.S. were to be broken up by musical regions, you’d see that most of the Eastern portion of the country — more than 20 states from Connecticut down to Florida, going west as far as Arkansas — listens to hip hop mogul Jay-Z the most. Rapper Drake owns the South-Southwest, with a stretch of seven states from Louisiana to Nevada (and, significantly, including Texas).

Daft Punk has four states, including Massachusetts and California, while Eminem has three, and teenage New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde, English indie rockers alt-J and pop rock band Imagine Dragons have one state apiece.
