Buzzfeed lays out the ’25 best parts about being from Maine’

Tip of the cap to our BDN newsroom head Anthony Ronzio for noticing this latest piece by the listicle factory Buzzfeed.

The folks over at Buzzfeed have apparently noticed that whenever Maine gets mentioned in one of their “Top places” lists, Mainers share the heck out of it on social media, so they decided to just go all in and make a list totally devoted to the state.

Some it is pretty predictable, including the lobster rolls (No. 25) and snowy winters (Nos. 8, 9 and 11), and the semi-condescending “aren’t they cute up there” stereotypes about Mainers only wearing checkered flannel (No. 1) and tying cows up outside stores (No. 19).

Then there’s the obligatory out-of-stater-who-didn’t-actually-read-the-story dig about the whole “chimichanga/chupacabra” headline thing (No. 18).

(Yes, we know the difference, and yes, that headline was intentional.)

A few are decently humorous and perceptive — like how we find 45 degrees almost tropical at the end of winter, but downright chilly after we’ve been through summer and fall (Nos. 6 and 7). I’ve noticed that myself, actually.

For what it’s worth, I think my favorite on the Buzzfeed list is No. 3:

Maine is the only state that borders only one state, so we’re not contaminated like the rest of those filthy state-touchers.
