A list of “16 Amazingly Refreshing Lake Destinations In The U.S.” on Buzzfeed includes Maine’s own Sebago Lake. While the list is short on details — Sebago’s entry says only “Excellent for sailing and all types of camping.” — the photos of sunny skies and clear water evoke feelings of relaxing summer days.
“Sebago Lake State Park opened to the public in 1938 as one of the five original state parks,” according to the state Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry. Sebago is the deepest and second-largest lake in Maine.
“Swimming, sport fishing, camping and boating are some of the summer activities enjoyed by visitors. The park’s 250-site campground is a popular destination for family vacationers and provides lasting memories season after season,” the department says.
Other lakes on the list include Crater Lake in Oregon, Lake Champlain, Walden Pond and New York’s Lake Placid.
