Vacationland: Home of LL Bean’s flagship store

A map is making the rounds on the Internet showing each state’s most popular attraction. Many results are not surprising. The Las Vegas Strip is king in Nevada, and the French Quarter leads in Louisiana.

If you guessed Maine’s most popular attraction is Acadia National Park, you’re probably not alone — but you’re also wrong.

The most visited attraction in Maine, according to the map, is L.L. Bean’s flagship store.

The map was originally posted in 2009, but the numbers still hold up, at least when it comes to the Pine Tree State. Acadia gets about 2 million visitors every year, according to the National Parks Service, but L.L. Bean’s flagship store in Freeport draws nearly 3 million people every year, according to the company.

Maine’s not alone in its business-based attractions: Disneyland and Disney World are the most popular spots in California and Florida, respectively; the Mall of America is the most popular destination in Minnesota; and the Ben & Jerry’s factory is Vermont’s top draw.
